SIZE AND LOCATION OF SUTJESKA NATIONAL PARK Sutjeska National Park (SNP) is located in forested, mountainous country in southeast Republika Srpska on the border between Bosnia-Hercegovina and Montenegro. The park's rugged landscape covers 17,250 ha and is centred approximately on … latitude 43 19N, longitude 18 37E. The mountains surrounding the park - Maglic, 2386m (the highest point in BiH); Volujak, 2337m; Zelengora, 2014m; Lelija, 2032m - and Vucevo Plateau (400-1700m) are part of the Dinara mountain massif (or Dinaric Alps) Just to the east of SNP lies the Piva Mountains and Piva River Canyon, and beyond those, the Tara River Canyon (the deepest canyon in Europe and second only to the Grand Canyon in theUSA in respect of its beauty and grandeur), which is part of Durmitor National Park in neighbouring Montenegro. ACCESS TO SUTJESKA NP The main road between Sarajevo and Trebinje passes 12 km through the park. The small town of Tjentiste (population 559, 1991 Census), near the northern entrance, is the park's administrative centre. Road distances between Tjentiste and principal local and regional centres are given bellow. The Camp Sutjeska-Tjentiste is located in the middle of Tjentiste, in the close vicinity of hotel Mladost and sport-recreational centre.
